The webserver is responsible for serving a website to a users browser. Servage has many webservers running at the same time to keep up with the many requests visitors to our customers' websites perform.

Common webserver actions

How a webserver works

Simply described, the webserver is doing the following, whenever a visitor makes a request:

  1. Receiving a request for a URL from the visitors browser.
  2. Loading the requested file from the appropriate storage server.
  3. Running programs, if necessary (the webserver may need to perform calculations, fetch data from a database etc. if the requested file contains programing that instructs to do so)
  4. Sending the response for the URL to the visitors browser (i.e. the website).
